Going Down in Flames

Giving

It is the easiest thing in the world to be kind. It takes so little effort so why is it missing from so many people.  Something as simple as a warm smile can brighten another's day, even if only for a couple of minutes.

It should be easy to take that kindness on to a more tangible level but, often, life gets in the way of that. But, again, it is not difficult, it just needs a bit more of a commitment.

So I am making that commitment as part of my journey and hope I can make a small difference

Giving Blood

I gave blood once, many years ago, and I was awful at it. I had probably given about 50ml when I felt really faint and they had to unhook me.

I think it's time to try again. I'm O+ and they've probably got loads of that. But they may not and, if everyone thought like that, they'd soon run out.

For the bigger picture, hopefully someone will read this and think that is something they ought to do.

Do Voluntary Work

There are always organisations looking for volunteers, the truth is they couldn't survive without them. Even harsher truth is that there are far more of us who take from these organisations without too much thought of giving back.

I have a route in mind for my choice but this is still in the planning stage. Hopefully it will all come good, if not, there are plenty of other options.

STEM Ambassador

Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics

My company has had a STEM ambassador programme for some time and, while I have dipped in a couple of times, it isn't something I have yet committed to fully.

STEM helps students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. These are key skills that will help them develop and give a greater chance of success, not only in the workplace, but also life in general. Isn't that what we all want for our youth?

Interact With
The Homeless

Homelessness is not something I encounter in daily life but, on my travels, I see it everywhere and it is an indictment on society that we allow it to happen. Homeless people end up in that existence for a number of reasons but the one thing they all have in common is being shunned by society.

I will often buy someone a drink or a sandwich and wish them good luck. But I rarely stop to chat with anyone, usually because I am on the way somewhere. But there are times when I could quite easily sit with someone and share some of my time as well as my food or drink.

Homeless people will, obviously, prioritise food in their stomach over a chat but a bit of compassion from a stranger can't do any harm as an add on, could it?
